THE TRAINING PROGRAM

PRE-HUNT REMOTE TRAINING

Your coaching prep and training will start before you ever step a foot on the mountain. First, you will receive your 1 year subscription to our BaseCamp Online Elk Hunt Training Course as well as our “Suggested Lists & Prep Sheets” for gear, camp needs, physical prep, shooting prep and best practices.

You will complete a “Hunter Profile Form” to help us identify your needs, abilities and current skill sets to help us take you to the next level.

From there, beginning in early Spring you will begin your remote elk call training and utilize our “Success Squad” resources and online webinars to begin your training and preparation in all aspects of the upcoming hunt; 1)Physical Conditioning, 2)Archery Setup, 3)Identifying and overcoming possible Failure Points, 4)Gear 5)Shooting Proficiency, 6)Scouting 7)Finding Elk, Locating, Calling and Set-up. All Webinars are recorded if you are unable to attend live.

There will also be a remote Meet/Greet – Question & Answer session with all the Adventure Campers as a whole by Ranch property prior to the beginning of the season. Y’all…. this season is GOING TO BE EPIC!

PRE-HUNT AT CAMP TRAINING

The moment you get to camp and get settled in, the “Boots on the Ground” training begins! This will be your first opportunity to put all of those months of learning into practice while seeing and feeling what it’s like in your actual hunting environment. Our goal at this point is to translate perception into reality… for you to feel that pressure to perform in simulated situations, working through the kinks, locking in and developing an understanding and confidence for what’s to come.

Your first day and a half will be boots on the ground simulations, drills & skill trainings. The pressure will be on, before you ever hit the woods.You will be calling in front of peers and coaches, performing a shooting proficiency test, learning scenarios, practicing situational shooting, set-ups and hunt movement training. This is when the magic starts!

LIVE-HUNT COACHING METHODS

The hardest part for our Adventure Campers, is taking what they have learned and then understanding where, when and how to use or apply it. The coaches begin the hunt leading and demonstrating, taking their hunters through the paces in a teaching guide mode… showing them their rhythm, cadences, how they move, how and why they call and explaining the reasons for each.

They challenge the hunters as well to give reasons for their actions, thoughts and strategies. Helping them to understanding the reasons behind behaviors and habits, so they develop a stronger arsenal for success.

From there, they continually move their hunters into using their skill sets, getting them behind “the wheel”, coaching and helping them understand as much as possible, while also weening them from dependency and letting them take the reins.

The final day of the hunt is “Graduation Day”. The coach takes on the role of a solid and skilled hunting partner, observing and ready to do their part, but having the hunter lead and drive the process. The hunter still has an expert safety net and willing partner in their coach, always there ready to give options, observances and expertise to help in any given situation, but it’s Graduation Day…and the hunter’s time to put those learned skills to the test. THIS…is real world education and knowledge.

ELKBROS EXPECTATIONS

HUNT POLICIES:
HONORING THE ANIMAL & STAYING SAFE

We do not hunt for trophies; we hunt with respect. Every decision in the wild must reflect the highest level of ethics, mastery, and preparation. These are the non-negotiable rules of our camp, established to protect our team, the hunter and the hunted.

The first and most important goal is ensuring the safety of both our campers and team members. The second is providing a next level memorable and educational hunt experience.

Alcoholic beverages are fine at the end of the day once back at camp for the evening or once your hunt is over. But for your safety and that of our team members, campers will not be allowed to participate in any hunting or shooting activities for the balance of the day after consuming alcohol or legal recreational drugs. The use of illegal controlled substances on ElkBros Hunts is strictly prohibited and will end the hunt.

There is a safe way to handle both firearms & bows & arrows. We will review our safety standards prior to going into the field. Your coach/guide will teach and alert you if you are not handling either in the safest way. Please adhere to your coach’s / guide’s instructions, as they are there to make make you a better hunter and your hunting experience both successful and safe.

The ‘Blood & Done’ policy dictates that once an elk is struck and blood is confirmed, that animal is legally and ethically considered yours. Your active hunt pauses instantly. Team efforts shift entirely to locating, tracking, and ethically recovering that specific bull. We do not target secondary animals once blood is on the ground.

If a trail drops off or becomes difficult, we transition immediately into grid tracking. We commit to a minimum of 24 to 48 hours of meticulous search routines—exploring nearby water sources, dense drainages, and typical retreat corridors—before any decision to call off a track is discussed.

This rule anchors our hunting philosophy in true stewardship. It ensures that every shot is taken with ultimate certainty and control. It removes the temptation of hasty decisions, marginal shots or personal ineffective killing ranges and forces us to look at the elk as a precious resource requiring our complete commitment and respect.

Along with education, skill development and an elevated hunt experience, our other main goals are to honor the hunt and to honor the animals we pursue.

We do this by preparing you, both prior to and at camp, to confidently deliver as quick and as ethical of a kill as possible. That is imperative. Added pressure in a simulated & controlled environment is a part of that training process. So prepare accordingly. Have your equipment tuned and dialed in. Know how your broadheads and bullets fly, period.

Bowhunters and rifle hunters will have to demonstrate proficiency with their weapon prior to going into the field. We will check sight on rifles at 100 yards and bowhunters must be able to put one arrow in a 8” paper plate at 30 yards. But know this Archers, for us to have confidence in your shooting ability, at 30 yards you should be able to put that arrow in a 3″ bullseye. That’s the expectation.
If you struggle, we will determine the issue, whether mechanical or user, and coach you through it until you can achieve proficiency.
